homework #4 :D

Chapter 6-
#3: In order to #3, I have to do #2 first so-
My present job is highly tedious and requires me to do unnecessary amounts of work. Sometimes I am head cashier and stand at the front desk for six hours waiting for customers. I'm not allowed to leave my register to do something more productive, even when there are no customers. Other times I have to face, meaning I make each aisle look more presentable. Approximately two minutes after I finish facing an aisle, it is messy when I go back to check it. The hard work I put into keeping my store tidy and organized seems to fail.

- My job serves no substantial purpose and none of my hard work is worthwhile.
- My job as a cashier helps people far less than when I am away from the register and have time to interact with them. My hard work facing is never worthwhile.
- I think my transitions from my original paragraph are just fine.
- I would take out the phrase "for six hours" because it is not necessary. I would take out the word "tidy" and just keep "organized".
- I'm pretty sure my spelling and grammar is okay.

#5: An idea for my blog? Hmph.

homework blog 3!

Chapter 4-

#2: Brain Teasers:
- math teachers bad at spelling
- thoughts all over the place
- did well on math sats
- coach sports teams since they know mathematics
- can solve rubix cubes
- math teachers are like einstein
- have messy handwriting
- do arithmetic incorrectly in equations

My math teacher last year spelled words incorrectly constantly. Many of my teachers had a hard time explaining a process and a much easier time doing the equation itself. Some were scatterbrained in their teaching methods and jumped from one thing to another. Teachers will even admit to having messy handwriting because they did far better in math than english during school. Math teachers sometimes struggle with other areas due to their great ability in their field.

#3: Brain Teaser: Human Hand
- Hands meant to hold
- Palms get sweaty
- Lots of bones
- Piercings/tattoos/rings
- Thumbs important for grabbing
- Hands used for the sense of touch

The human hand has many bones in it that could easily break. Thumbs are vitally important for humans because we can lift things easier with them. Many women decorate their hands with nail polish, rings, and sometimes piercings/tattoos. After holding hands for a while, palms become sweaty. The human hand is an essential part of our life that we appreciate and care for.

Chapter 5-

Practice 5.5: Single fathers or single mothers, Brain Teaser:
- Low income
- Depends on how many children they have
- Neglect children
- Alcohol/drug abuse
- Age of child, child's maturity

Single fathers or single mothers. Narrower topics for this include: alcoholics, employed, unemployed singles, multiple children, and drug abuse. After researching these topics, my thesis statement may turn out to be something like: "Unemployed single parents have a harder time supporting their children and are more likely to neglect them."

#1: A book you've read could be about a book you liked or disliked. It could be something you learned from or were absolutely bored with. It could be a book you read at your own leisure or something you had to read for school. That's where high school versus college loops into this topic. Perhaps books you read in high school were an easier read than those in college. Maybe they are the same. Everyone has had different experiences.

#3: Outline-
I. A Book You've Read
II. High School Versus College
A. Relation
1. Level of Difficulty
2. Various Experiences
3. Type of Novel
4. Interest in Novel

#8: Outline-
I. My blog
A. My homework assignments
1. Question by question
2. Explanation of question before question
B. Personal information
1. My name
a. More information about me
2. Pictures

Oh, I can do number one!
1: Favorite television program - Psych.
- Mainly comedy, opposing view might want more drama.
- Not actual CSI-esque information, more for entertainment than solving cases
- It is NOT like the Mentalist! It even alludes to this in the show. It came first and the Mentalist is a suave dude whereas Psych is just hilarious!
- Reasons people might like it: California=beautiful set, James Roday (Lead) is gorgeous, Guss is a pharmaseutical representative but helps with Psych on the side which people can relate to, Lassiter is uptight, Finding the Pineapple
- Bug List=Commercials, Shawn's romantic history
- Psych is like my daily vitamin because I need a little humor each day.
- I watch this show with my parents. We all enjoy it!

Psych is my favorite TV show because it depicts daily life in a humorous way while adding mystery to it. The main character, Shawn Spencer, pretends to be a psychic when in reality, he just notices intricate details of crime scenes. He has a father, best friend, and some interesting co-workers. Most can relate to his relationships because although humorous, they have some truth to them. A pineapple is present in every episode and the viewer becomes more involved with the show searching for it. The mystery of the show entails a case that Shawn solves at the end of each episode by his own findings and the help of others.

2nd homework :]

Practice 2.1: The thesis "Chris Rock may be the funniest person alive." should contain an essay describing Chris Rock's funny moments, along with how he has more talent than other people. The technology thesis should contain research about technology and how it has benefited our society but also corrupted it. The "farm" thesis should contain personal examples of skills this person learned while living on a farm and how that better prepare them for life. The "Internet" thesis should show the reader specific examples of how families have changed due to using it. The writer needs details supporting their thesis for each of these essays. It doesn't specifically have to be in research paper format but it should cite information from valid sources backing up what they're trying to prove.

#3: I agree with the quote "Love is perhaps the only glimpse we are permitted of eternity," yet disagree with the quote "Love is an act of endless forgiveness". The first quote states that love lasts forever, which I currently agree with. I don't know what love is, but once I stop questioning it I believe it will be there and it won't fade. The second quote sounds sweet at first, because everyone makes mistakes and some deserve forgiveness more than others. If you forgave someone who was abusing you in any way because you were convinced you loved them, you will eventually crush the dignity you have left. I don't believe any quote can define love and I think it has different meanings to people, but for me it is far more powerful than a relationship.

#5: These details touch upon the idea that we have assumptions of AIDS that may not be entirely true. According to these details, many people think they're immune to AIDS but don't actually realize how careful they should be. The idea that people need to be more self-aware when it comes to diseases is brought up by these details as well.

Chapter 3-

#4b: When I began high school, I wore mostly black and red. I wore black nail polish and heavy eyeliner. My hair was dirty blond but apparently I fit the stereotype for an "emo kid". People believed that I was depressed, cut myself, wanted to be alone, and enjoyed depressing music. This basically sums up the stereotype of what most perceive to be an emo kid. Some of my friends dressed the way I did, but we loved each other's company. We hated to be alone, enjoyed exciting music, didn't self-mutilate, and were pretty content with our lives at the time. Many judged our personalities upon our looks which is a natural response. Everyone has judged someone for the most part, and not all of them mean it in a harmful way. It's perfectly normal to observe someone's clothing/behavior and associate them with a certain stereotype.

#6a: Skirts in the past were a lot longer than some sold in stores recently. Shirts have become more low cut, even in Abercrombie Kids. Our youth is being forced to "grow up" faster than ever recently. But growing up doesn't mean wearing more revealing clothing. It entails a more interpersonal development than that. Outer appearance somewhat affects certain people's emotional states but is more dependent on how comfortable they are with themselves.

first homework EVER.

Practice 1.4: My bad habit of sleeping in got the best of me today. Any time I turn off my alarm and go back to sleep, I wake up far later than I had planned to. Today I woke up at 8:00 AM for my 9:30 class. I dismissed my alarm and lied down. I told myself, "I'll just sleep for 10 more minutes and then I'll get up and get ready." With past experiences, I should have known this was a bad idea. When I woke up, it was 9:39 AM. I couldn't believe I slept an entire hour and a half away, especially since I would never make it to class in time. Frustrated with myself, I kicked off my sheets and jumped out of bed. I got ready and made sure I had done everything I was supposed to for my two classes today. My habit formed from pure laziness, and I need to break free of it. My mistake has taught me to never lie back down after dismissing my alarm. I know now my body isn't capable of just "relaxing". If I actually need rest, I will fall asleep simply by lying down. Sleeping through class prevented me from valuable information that would have helped me understand my homework. I benefit the most from being awake and present in class, not hearing about it from someone else.

Practice 1.5: My grandmother told me that if a penny was on the ground upside down and you flipped it over and picked it up it still was good luck. I never questioned her and still have a habit of doing just that today. I don't really believe in superstition but I looked up to her so I never considered it to be wrong. When I went to a Christian school where people judged me because I was agnostic, I viewed Christians as hypocrites. That view stayed with me for a long time as it was displayed all over the media as well. Once I met some people outside of that school who were able to respect me, my opinion soon changed.

Practice 1.7: Gericault shows hard work and determination through the officer riding and almost falling off of a horse. Goya shows one side pinned against another, one holding a weapon while the other innocently surrenders after some of their men have been shot. The first picture shows patriotism more than anything, which most admire. The second picture shows that innocent people are negatively affected by war and some agree. Putting the pictures side by side show the positive and negative aspects of war. If I used these pictures as examples in a paper on war, I'd convey that we have to pay an unfortunate price for our benefit in war.

Practice 1.8: The first picture shows that our soldiers are not alone in war. The man is holding a piece of paper and is smiling. I think he is smiling because it's a letter from someone close to him. The man of color in the background is looking at him with a hint of jealousy, wishing that someone was watching over him. The second picture shows that underprivelged children are sent off to war, no matter how young they are. The colored boy is smoking a cigarette and is holding a gun which may be realistic on occassion but isn't for the most part. Each of these pictures exaggerate their point with the objects and emotions displayed.

#4: Honesty Assignment- In art class in fifth grade I dropped my pencil. I reached down to get my pencil and all of a sudden let one loose. My face turned red, the class went silent, and all of a sudden everyone started laughing. I was so ashamed of myself. I even lied to everyone at recess and blamed it on the art teacher. After the incident, I realized I made it out to be a bigger deal than it actually was. Everybody farts, no matter how silly that sounds. If you go back to kindergarten, not many kids held back.

#6: My ex boyfriend and I have had our share of problems trying to be friends. He currently likes one of my friends and of course I'm jealous of her. I asked him, "Why do you like her? She's ugly," which I knew would only cause more drama. He laughed and said "No she isn't." He's right, she isn't. I only said it because I was jealous. I wanted him to say I was prettier, of course. Jealousy turns you into a terrible person sometimes.
I pulled my friend Lily aside and asked her what she thought about what I had said to my ex. She said "I knew you were joking. You laughed after you said it." When I realized I could claim that was what really happened, I went with it. She viewed my conversation in a different way than I did. I hope that my other friends will as well.
